Personal Vision

I like having the planned cliche 20 year vision: Bachelor’s, MBA, Ph.D degrees received; CEO of a successful business; financial stability with a Pacific Heights home and New York City penthouse; and just maybe even kids.

But, I also like to put some creativity in this plan.

Glowing in an original Carolina Herrera dress, the Jimmy Choos dazzle as I walk down the bright red carpet — “click clack click clack click clack” — I finally made it.

Listed as one of Forbes’ Most Powerful Women of the year, I walk in the auditorium nervous with excitement as the anticipation for a Stevie Award, recognizing accomplishments and contributions in the Business World, would potentially be mine. I could see all the endless time and efforts put in from the past 20 years to get to this point — a point where I was the new Mary Barra, Marissa Mayer, and even at the same level of Bill Gates. As one of the first Asian American women who made it to the top, I send my gratitude for every supporter who believed in me and every enemy who strengthened me. Every night spent for Molly’s essay outlines, every hour spent on years of Science Fair, down to every minute of a presentation for history, PiE Robotics, LLCs, and many more; it was finally paid off.

But, winning a Stevie award was not just all of it. My greatest accomplishment didn't come from creating the newest product on the market nor was it receiving a salary in the many zero digits behind the number one. It came from helping the ones who reminded me of me through what I have started: the Global Initiative Organization, an organization that gave opportunities to those who cannot afford what they need to enhance their education and to one who are robbed of their potential because of special circumstances. Bill Gates once said, "If you are born poor, it's not your mistake. If you die poor, it's your mistake." Motivation keeps people moving, no matter what the circumstances are. It is up to you to decide which path you choose. As for me, I chose to be rich: rich at heart, rich in the mind, rich to change others.

To fulfill this vision of mine will take time. My plan is to double major in economics and sociology as a part of undergraduate studies. During my undergraduate studies, I plan to take one or two semesters dedicated to studying abroad. I not am able to immerse myself in other cultures and gain knowledge in my own fields of study, but more importantly, see through the lens of the local people in how they change their communities. Through these studying abroad opportunities, I hope to put "service above self" in participating through the local non profits wherever I go.  After graduation, I hope to gain some work experience in areas of banking or consulting. A few years later, I hope to enroll in a MBA program, specifically Berkeley's Haas School of Business MBA program alongside of my career. In my early 30's, I plan to apply for a Ph.D program in Political Science. After gaining experience for about 10 to 15 years, my intent is to start a non-profit organization that will expand globally to help young people who deserve a better chance in education and future career opportunities.
